6/27/18, 75 days out
Workout: 50 minutes of running speed work, swim (moved due to thunderstorms)
Weather: For the run-overcast + rain +humid, 70 degrees, afternoon thunderstorms
Today I had a major case of run love. For the first time since early May, I enjoyed every single step from start to finish. My legs felt great, my mind was in a positive space and the Taylor Swift channel on Pandora kept playing a lot of my favorite songs. I also decided to break the Garmin back out but I made a little modification to it:
As much as I want to run watchless, I also want to see the progression of all the hard work. It keeps me hungry for improvement, but I had to change the way I use it during the workout so I covered it. Yes, I could just change the screen settings to only see the time or whatever, but I can also just hit a button and see everything else if I want to. So, I wrote a reminder to “just run” on a post it and taped over the screen leaving the time exposed so I could do my intervals. Worked like a charm, and my happy running is back.
I also tried out some new shoes today. I decided to try something other than the marshmallowy sole of the Hokas I’ve worn for the past several years because the toe box seems to get narrower and narrower with every shoe update. So I looked for a shoe with a wider toe box as well as a 3-6mm heel to toe drop and was introduced to Topo Athletic. I chose the Fli-Lyte 2 model, which has some cushion and a 3mm drop. Today was my first run in them everything was perfect except I need to go up a 1/2 size because toward the end of the run my second toe on my left foot was hitting the end of the shoe. Oh, and the color is gorgeous 🙂
*Also, the 30 minute run I was supposed to do yesterday is now going to happen on Sunday. We’re about to have a heatwave here in Virginia and would rather get the speed work run done on a 70 degree day and not a 95 degree day.
Enjoy the rest of the day!
