Recovery Week

I got the warm fuzzies when I saw this on my Monday Training Peaks schedule for two reasons: 1. RECOVERY WEEK and 2. Eagleman-specific training!

In Virginia, spring is definitely trying to make its appearance. We have days in the upper 40s/low50s with sunshine and rain, but it still drops into the 20s/30s at night. To say I’m ready for consistent warmer days would be an understatement.

When we left off last week I wasn’t in love with swimming. Spoiler alert: nothing has changed. I did, however, actually look forward to getting to the pool dark and early both times this week so I’m calling that a win.

Cooler temperatures kept me on the trainer during the week because I had to get them done in the morning before work. At some point during the winter, I started riding without the use of my power meter/Garmin to monitor bike stats and just did the intervals as scheduled. I did this because I can tend to be obsessed with the numbers and I wanted to just enjoy the workouts, especially after taking time off after Maine. I decided this was my final week without consistent stats and am excited to see what numbers I come up with next week.

Once again, running is the favorite this week. One thing I noticed is that I’m getting faster but still don’t believe it. I’ve gotten away from staring at the pace my Garmin while I’m runningΒ by taking it off my screen, and lately I’ve been surprising myself with an average of sub-9 minute paces for runs under 60 minutes. I think I’ve ended more runs with “whoa, there must have been a glitch with my Garmin” than “cool, I’ve gotten faster. Let’s get even faster” over the past few months.

Weekly favorites:
-On Thursday I received an email from Skratch Labs announcing that I’ll be an ambassador for 2018! Super exciting to represent a brand I am 100% behind–it’s pretty much all I’ve used during my training and racing since starting this sport.

-Getting my bike ready for the season. After a winter in the trainer, I finally took it to the bike shop, gave the cassette/chain a good scrub and put my new wheels/brake pads on. I had wanted to get a carbon seatpost, but it’s on backorder at Trek until late June, so that will likely be a post-Eagleman upgrade.

  1. Congrats on your ambassadorship! Having represented Tailwind the last couple of years, I love how these fueling companies are throwing some support behind us “recreational athletes”.

  2. I love a good recovery week during training! It seems like they always come at just the right time too .

    Congrats on becoming a Skratch ambassador! I received one of their products in this month’s StrideBox and I can’t wait to try it out!

  3. Congratulations on becoming a Skratch ambassador! I started using their hydration mix this past summer while training for a century ride …I loved the pineapple flavor. I received a sample of their protein powder in this month’s Stridebox and am anxious to give it a try as well! Enjoy your recovery week and good luck with your next tri!


    1. Thank you! The recovery protein powder is SO good–the chocolate actually tastes like chocolate, not some weird close to chocolate flavor πŸ™‚


  4. Bike envy! Since I mostly use my bike for cross training (with an occasional century ride or sprint tri), I have a lower end Trek model. So, I’m going to live vicariously through you. It’s awesome your running paces are getting lower. Also, congrats on the Skratch ambassadorship. I haven’t tried their products. I’ll have to check into that. Thanks for linking.
