“Sign up. We Got This.”

By October, I thought knew my 2018 triathlon schedule: Eagleman 70.3 in June, REV3 Williamsburg Olympic in July and North Carolina 70.3 in October. All of those races are flat and hot coastal races, exactly the type of courses/weather I’m comfortable with.

Then I had a “what if” thought. What if I chose a race that had the complete opposite course profile? I’m definitely not a climber and I’ve been known to cry while cycling up steep hills. Could I really do it? But what if I didn’t finish? Would I be okay with a DNF? While that question remains unanswered, there is one question I answered immediately:

Am I okay with not giving myself the chance to fail?
That was a firm NO.

As soon as I made sure my husband could travel home to be my race sherpa, I emailed my coach my concerns and doubts, but that I was willing to work hard.

I got a short, confidence-boosting email back:

“Sign up. We got this.”

The following day at 12pm sharp, hands shaking as I’ve never been so nervous hitting the submit payment button, I registered for Lake Placid 70.3.

Nervous? Excited? Terrified? Ready to work? In the words of Shalane…F*ck yes.

Bring on the 2018 season. It’s going to be one hell of an adventure.
