Friday Five 2.0!

Hello! I’m so excited the Friday Five will live on through a couple of new hosts, Fairytales and Fitness and Running on Happy!

Today, as we start packing up the rest of our apartment I’m reflecting back on my running time here in Hampton Roads area by writing about my favorite places to run in the area.

Colonial Williamsburg. Hands down, my favorite place to run in the area.Β There are sidewalks, it’s pedestrian-friendly and best of some roads are closed off from 8a-10p to car traffic. I love the historical feel of the area-it really feels like you are running through a different time period.

Virginia Beach Oceanfront. I don’t run here often, but when I do it’s always enjoyable. I usually go to the oceanfront for a race but on occasion Tyler and I would just go down for a morning run in the salty air.

The Noland Trail. I enjoy running here when it’s super-hot outside. It provides plenty of shade is a nice change of scenery from typical Newport News (think strip malls, cookie cutter home neighborhoods/apartments and lots of fast food restaurants). The trail also provides a fair amount of hills for a flat area.

The Cap to Cap Trail. Completed in 2015, the Virginia Cap to Cap trail begins in Jamestown and ends in Richmond (50 miles!!). I’ve spent many hours on this trail running and riding and look forward to racing on part of it again next year at REV3 Williamsburg.

Kiln Creek Fitness Path. This 3.26 mile loopΒ is my neighborhood running path. It is in a golf community and there are plenty of options to lengthen the distance of your run. It’s mostly flat, paved and well-lit. Tyler and I spent many first dates running on this path and I ran my first sub-25 minute 5K here too.

So happy I got to experience running in these places throughout the five years I lived here, but it’s time to move on and create new running memories πŸ™‚

Have a great weekend!

  1. How could you move away from Hampton Roads? It is lovely here. I am sure the next place you will be moving to is just as great. I love running at the ocean front. Mornings are usually spent starting off with a run there with my running buddy. So peaceful! I also like running the trails at First Landing State Park.

    1. I’m actually moving back to northern Virginia so I’m really looking forward to it. There are plenty of things I will miss about Hampton Roads–the proximity to the beach in particular–but mountain air and being within an hour to DC is more my cup of tea πŸ™‚ Thank you for hosting the linkup!

    1. Thank you, I’m really looking forward to it πŸ™‚ Believe it or not I’m most excited for being able to get stronger running hills, which are a rarity in the Hampton Roads area!
